Hoover Institution Launches PolicyEd.org
Stanford, CA -- The Hoover Institution today launched PolicyEd.org, an online platform that hosts videos and other educational content to equip Americans with knowledge and an analytical perspective about public policy issues. Based on the research of Hoover Institution scholars, the site offers solutions to today’s challenges in economics, health care, national security, civics, and the environment.
“Our goal with PolicyEd.org is to use the research from our scholars to provide accurate, accessible information on contemporary policy issues” stated Tom Gilligan, Director, Hoover Institution. “Because many of our Hoover fellows also serve as Stanford University lecturers, this site gives the public access to some of the most distinguished professors in the world.”
PolicyEd.org will use Hoover Institution’s intellectual firepower and unmatched archival resources to help explain complex policy issues. By translating academic material into easily understood educational programming, PolicyEd.org aims to attract a broad audience interested in learning more about policy solutions to entitlement spending, slow economic growth, the Affordable Care Act, public pensions, foreign policy, and more.
"In my writing on economics, I always try to explain complicated topics so that my ideas are better understood," stated Hoover Institution senior fellow John Cochrane. "I look forward to applying this same philosophy to my work at PolicyEd.org, through which I'll advance the Hoover Institution's principles to an even wider audience." Cochrane’s research is highlighted in The Importance of Competition, an animated video in the Intellections series, which explains key public policy concepts in sixty- to ninety-second installments intended for sharing via social media.
In a series of three short videos featured on the site, Hoover Institution senior fellow John Taylor outlines the budget process and discusses the debt and deficit and how they affect the economy. Drawing on his decades of economic, academic, and writing expertise, Taylor analyzes the major components of fiscal policy and their effect on the US economy in easily understood brief explanations.
With PolicyEd.org, the Hoover Institution strengthens its founding mission of informing and shaping important public policy debates. The expanded reach of the platform will build on the Hoover Institution’s legacy of substantive policy inquiry at a time where partisan advocacy has become the norm.
