Keynesian Fiscal Stimulus: The Debt and the Payoff

Keynesian fiscal stimulus promises to support an economy in recession, but decades of research raise questions about how much growth that spending actually produces. The evidence on stimulus checks, government purchases, and infrastructure shows that the payoff depends heavily on how and when the money is spent, while the debt can persist long after the crisis ends.
