Regulatory capture: A term that refers to the agencies tasked with maintaining stability with companies in a given industry. A problem occurs when the regulators become too close to these companies. This friendship primarily produces the advancement of those companies which they regulate. There is a very keen interest in the public. These regulators maintain a professional balance to provide competent services that can prevent situations that harm the public or are not in the public's best interest.
