Terms You May Have Heard

Post-secondary institution: Institutions attended after high school. These may include universities, colleges, trade schools, and vocational schools.

Social investment: What society is spending on your post-secondary education. This may come through the form of tax dollars spent on education or donations to private universities.

Value Added: The amount that a post-secondary institution adds to an individual’s lifetime earnings, above that which the person would have made anyways.

Nonselective schools: Institutions in which students do not need to submit colelge admissions test scores to be admitted.

Selective schools: Institutions in which students need to submit college admissions test scores to be admitted.
